The only thing I can give you are the warning messages in MedCtrOC, which are slightly different than what you mentioned, & could shed some light on the issue. I think this all started for me when I installed Visual Studio 2005 Standard. click site I then checked "services" and it said ehrecr.exe was started so I went to media center and was able to watch tv on the PC monitor. Also, since the underlying problem is in the .NET Framework 1.1, it could potentially affect other programs, and not just Update Rollup 2. If reformatting during the re-install is not an option, you will need to try to remove the .NET Framework 2.0 using some other means. Uninstalling & reinstalling the updates after the last successful TV watching/recording didn't help. I followed the steps Aaron gave above.
I followed the directions, and it lead me to downloading Update Rollup2 from www.xbox.com.
