Maxtor External Mini Touch II Drive Not Recognised

But the message said it would work "best" with a high speed usb drive. Basically, taking it apart in a clean room. I was sitting here reading the replies to this thread and there are many very good points and suggestions but the one thing I'm not seeing is talk of possible physical Before running for Tech help I tried installing the ExternalHD on another machine, and received the same errors. I tried plugging it in to other computers. look at this site It's a pretty simple process.Hope this helps.

When I plugged it into my PC, I could see the drive letter, but could not access it, with the same error messages as you described. Then a notice on my computer says that the device is not recognized because of a bad driver.

which is out of the question. (I have 5 years of work stored in that HD, Personal, legal and business) and MUST find a way to retrieve it. (will not make I read on another forum that removing the password from the Maxtor before installing on a new machine might help, but I can't do that because I can no longer access on the left hand side click disk management4. I then removed the chassis screws and discovered the Maxtor OneTouch is nothing more than a 500GB Barracuda IDE (80 pin) hard drive. I hate maxtor drives. Anyone try it yet? That is why CD/DVD's are one of the most reliable ways to back up information.
